Frequently Asked Questions

What is Remedial massage?

Remedial Massage is a form of massage that aims to relieve  deep muscular pain. Deep muscular pain is often caused by trigger points, which are hyperirritable spots located in taught bands of skeletal muscles. Release of these trigger points will reduce pain and increase your movement.

The basic Remedial Massage appointment can include Sports, Pregnancy & Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

What is Myotherapy?

A Myotherapy treatment is mostly hands on massage, which aims to correct muscular conditions such as wry neck, lower back pain, sciatica or hamstring tightness.

Myotherapy addresses muscular dysfunction with the aid of modalities such as:

  • ASTM
    (instrumented Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation)

  • Remedial Massage.

  • Exercise Rehabilitation

Myotherapist’s have usually completed a degree or Advanced Diploma.

How often should I get a massage?

Massage is highly recommended to reduce stress, increase movement, improve your mood and sleep and to basically help you to feel great.

Your therapist will recommend when he or she would like to see you based on your assessment and condition. If you have a chronic condition (a condition you've had for greater than 6 months) most therapist will advise once or twice a week for at least two or three weeks. The reason we advise once or twice a week is to disrupt the pain cycle that has been created by your condition, or to continue the relaxed and lengthened muscle state produced after your massage so that your condition does not return. Often chronic conditions may have developed over many years and require concentrated attention to fix.

Together we'll pin point which actions and movements are worsening your condition. We do this so that you can alter this habit reducing the chance that your condition returns so that you can enjoy your life pain free.

Will I feel sore after a massage?

Most clients feel great directly after a massage, however some clients may feel quite tender and sore after a Deep tissue massage. When you receive a deep tissue or remedial massage your muscles can feel like they’ve just done a work out. This is because much like doing a work out, during your massage small micro tears may have occurred which may cause swelling and pain. After 2 or 3 days this soreness will subside and you'll have much better range of movement and reduced symptoms, such as headaches and migraines.

It is important to keep hydrated leading up to and after your massage. Hydration plays an important part in your healing process, so don't forget to drink plenty of water.
